Power bills fall for most states from July

New default electricity prices take effect on 1 July, and most of the country will pay less. New South Wales drops by up to 7.7 percent, South East Queensland by up to 10.7 percent, and Victoria by around 5 percent. South Australia is the exception, edging up about 1.4 percent on flat rate plans.

Retailers also have to offer a Solar Sharer deal: three free hours of power a day for households with a smart meter, designed to soak up cheap midday solar. If you have solar or a battery, timing your heavy use to those free windows is where the real saving sits.
