The federal home battery rebate has had a significant rework. The total funding pool grows to 7.2 billion dollars, but from 1 May 2026 the discount tapers sharply once a battery goes past 14kWh, and it now steps down every six months rather than once a year.
In plain terms, the best rebate window for a large battery has already passed, while smaller household batteries still keep close to the full discount. If you are sizing a system, the maths now favours right sizing to your actual use over going as big as possible.
