ARENA has put another 13.6 million dollars into Amber Electric's vehicle-to-grid trial, taking total government backing to 16.8 million dollars and expanding the fleet from 50 to 1,000 households across New South Wales and South Australia.
The technology lets a parked EV send power back into the home and the grid. Early results are encouraging: one group of 33 cars earned 567 dollars in a single quiet month, and most of that value came from powering homes overnight from the car battery rather than exporting to the grid.
